Job Description

Summary:

This is a service position that provides World Class Member Service to both credit union members and employees. Tellers serve members promptly while representing the credit union in a friendly, courteous and professional manner. This position performs transactional duties to serve members by receiving or paying out funds with a high degree of accuracy.

This is a part-time position averaging approximately 24-30 hours per week. Ability to work Saturdays on a rotating schedule is required as well as the ability to help fill in and work in other branches as needed.


Essential Functions and Basic Responsibilities:

Responsible for establishing and maintaining effective and professional business relations with members. Greet and welcome members to the credit union in a friendly, professional and timely manner.

Provide prompt, accurate and efficient member service providing basic cash receipt and payment services in accordance with credit union policies and procedures. Maintain privacy of member account information.

Receive share drafts/checks, cash and process payments for deposit to member accounts. Verify amounts, examine checks for document validity, proper endorsement and enter deposits accurately into the member's account in the computer system. Cash share drafts/checks and process withdrawals; pay out money after verification of document validity, member identity, signatures and member balances. Generate member receipts.

Ensure holds are placed on checks received in accordance with the credit union policies and Reg. CC regulations.

Respond to and help resolve member inquiries and requests regarding their accounts in a helpful, friendly and professional manner.

Promote, explain and cross-sell credit union services. Maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge on all credit union products and services that are handled or promoted by tellers.

Balance cash drawer at the end of the shift and compare totaled amounts to a computer generated proof sheet. Research and resolve discrepancies and report any discrepancies to the supervisor as necessary.

Be aware and alert at all times to any member entering the credit union and acknowledge their presence as soon as possible for safety and security reasons.

Establish and maintain effective coordination and working relationships with area personnel and with management. Keep supervisor informed of area activities and of any significant problems or concerns.

Maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge on all related policies and procedures along with rules and regulations for the teller area, including robbery procedures.

Attend training sessions (CUPATs) and complete required training in a timely manner. Attend and participate in other group or company meetings as required.

Maintain a clean and well organized work area as well as assist with the kitchen cleaning duties and contribute to the overall cleanliness of the HFCU properties.

Perform other duties as required or assigned and assist other department staff as needed.

Job Competencies/Requirements:

Handle all information/documents in a confidential and secure manner at all times. Be aware of surroundings when working with member files and when speaking with members, both in person and over the phone, when discussing or gathering personal and confidential information.

Cash handling skills, good organizational, communication (strong verbal and listening skills) and business writing skills to exhibit professionalism and deal effectively with internal and external contacts.

Conscientious, comfortable with detail and the ability to be multi-tasked to coordinate and prioritize the workday efficiently. Comfortable working under pressure, self-motivated and able to work in a team environment.

Ability to work cooperatively with others to identify, recommend and implement opportunities for increased efficiency.

Ability to work Saturdays on a rotating schedule is required.


Education/Knowledge and Experience:

A high school diploma or equivalent. Retail customer service experience and/or experience servicing within a financial institution preferred.

Cash handling experience strongly desired. Experience and accuracy with balancing a cash drawer and handling cash during customer transactions. Excellent customer service and verbal communication skills are required with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively both in person and over the phone.

Good math skills, basic computer knowledge, proficient use of a calculator, keyboard and experience using Microsoft Office products required. Experience with financial institution software systems preferred.


Working Conditions/Environment:

This position requires standing for long periods of time and working primarily at a workstation or desk in an open office environment. Daily tasks include extensive use of a computer performing standard keyboard functions, requiring repeated motion. Stretching breaks are recommended to avoid injury. Some light lifting. Occasional lifting/carrying of bags of coin up to 50 pounds.
